Ingredients

Oatmeal
  • 2/3 cup oats
  • 2/3 cup bran cereal
  • 2 cups water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup egg whites
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Toppings
  • 1/2 cup fresh blackberries
  • 4 tablespoons half and half
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey

Method

Cooking
  1. Combine oats, bran cereal, water, and salt in a saucepan over high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil and continue cooking for 3-5 minutes until thickened and no longer watery.
  2. Stir in brown sugar, cinnamon, and egg whites. Whisk immediately to blend the egg whites smoothly into the oatmeal and create a thicker consistency.
Serving
  1. Divide the oatmeal between two bowls and finish with blackberries, half and half, and honey.

Notes

Frozen blackberries can also be used instead of fresh berries. Thaw them until they are still slightly cold but no longer frozen for a convenient option that remains delicious.
