Ingredients
  

For the Cookies
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening Can substitute with unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup flour Measure by spooning and leveling
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar Optional
  • as needed sugar for rolling To coat the cookie dough balls

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cream the white and brown sugars with the shortening until light and fluffy.
  2. Mix in the egg until fully combined.
  3. Add the dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda, cream of tartar, and vanilla) and mix until just combined.
  4. Use a cookie scoop to form round balls from the dough.
  5. Roll each dough ball in sugar for a sweet crust.
  6. Do not flatten the balls before baking.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place cookie balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Bake for 12 minutes or until edges are set but centers still look slightly underbaked.

Notes

Serve slightly warm. Store cookies in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
