Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
- Add 1/4 cup of brown sugar to the dry mix and set the rest aside.
Mix Wet Ingredients
- In a separate bowl, whisk 1 tablespoon of milk, 2 tablespoons melted butter, applesauce, and the egg.
- Stir the wet mix into the dry mix until combined.
Bake Donuts
- Pour the batter into a gallon-sized plastic bag and cut off a corner.
- Grease a mini-donut pan and pipe the batter into each space about 1/2 full.
- Bake for about 7 minutes or until golden.
- Remove from the oven and take each donut out of the pan.
Make the Glaze
- Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter with the remaining 1/4 cup of brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir in the chocolate chips until they melt and then bring the mix to a boil.
- Boil for about 2 minutes.
- Add 1 tablespoon of milk and bring the glaze back to a boil.
- Add powdered sugar and mix; use the last tablespoon of milk to thin the glaze if needed. Keep the glaze over low heat.
Glazing Donuts
- Dip each mini donut into the warm glaze and sprinkle toppings right away before the glaze sets.
Notes
Serve warm for the best texture and flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
